Marking Words as Learned
Understand how the Self-Learned status works, how FSRS automagically promotes words, and how it drives your HSK progress.
Overview
Throughout HanyuHub, you will see the Scholar Graduation Cap icon () next to vocabulary words on the HSK Vocabulary Board, inside the Character Action Panel, and in your My Words queue.
Clicking this icon lets you manually flag words you already know to instantly count them toward your HSK completion stats.

1. Unlearned (Default)
Inactive StateWord is in your active learning queue or FSRS flashcard deck.

2. Learned / Mastered
Active StateWord is promoted to Self-Learned, incrementing your HSK progress.
Two Ways Words Become "Learned"
- Instant Credit: Clicking the graduation cap () immediately turns it green, flagging the word as mastered.
- No Flashcard Penalty: Marking a word as learned gives you immediate progress credit without disrupting your spaced-repetition schedules. If you review the card later, your FSRS memory intervals continue adapting naturally.
- Earned Mastery: You don't have to manually check off every word. When you consistently review a flashcard and its memory stability reaches 30 days in our memory engine, HanyuHub automatically marks it as Self-Learned for you!
- To learn more about how memory stability and intervals are calculated, read How Word Memory Works.
Where "Learned" Status Drives Your Stats
- HSK Board Progress Bar: Increments your completion percentage and word count tracker (e.g.,
7% (9 / 149)) for that specific HSK tier. - Global Progression Rings: Updates your live completion rings across HSK Levels 1 through 6 on the Progression & Badges dashboard.
- My Words Filtering: Allows you to filter your personal bookmark list to see what is still In Progress vs. Mastered.
